Sophia Khalid is an 11-year-old changemaker who believes that kindness, no matter how small, can create meaningful change. Through Sophia’s Kindness Club, she has turned that belief into action, leading initiatives that support children and families in her community while inspiring other young people to get involved.

Sophia’s work focuses on helping children access the everyday essentials they need to feel supported, confident, and ready to succeed. Through an ongoing partnership with SafetyNet Children & Youth Charities, she organizes donation drives collecting essential items such as new undergarments, winter clothing, school supplies, and other necessities for children and families in need. Most recently, she raised enough money to purchase and donate 100 backpacks, helping children start the school year feeling prepared and confident.

Sophia also has raised more than $1,100 for McMaster Children’s Hospital to support pediatric care and research. She has also collaborated with local dental clinics to collect supplies and create oral-hygiene kits for children. Beyond fundraising and donation drives, Sophia has spent time tutoring refugee children, helping them learn and practice English, and supporting them as they navigate life in a new community

Sophia now leads a team of eight youth volunteers, encouraging her peers to take an active role in giving back and demonstrating that young people can be leaders in their communities. Her dedication has been recognized at the community, provincial, and national levels, including recognition from McMaster Children’s Hospital and McMaster University, certificates of achievement from Ontario MPPs, and a letter of commendation from Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Sophia hopes to inspire other young people to believe that you don’t have to wait until you grow up to change the world, you can start right where you are.
