Children First Canada is proud to present a Champions for Children Award in memoriam to the late Honourable Landon Pearson, O.C., in recognition of her lifelong dedication to advancing children’s rights. Known as the “Children’s Senator,” Landon Pearson was a tireless advocate who brought national attention to children’s rights during her time in the Senate (1994–2005), helping shape policies that still protect young people today. She played a key role in the creation of A Canada Fit for Children and contributed to Canada’s leadership in global child rights efforts. Her decades of service also included leadership roles with the Canadian Commission for the International Year of the Child, the Canadian Council on Children and Youth, and the Canadian Coalition for the Rights of Children. After retiring, Landon founded the Landon Pearson Resource Centre at Carleton University, furthering education and research on childhood and children’s rights. Her mentorship of our founder, Sara Austin, and her unwavering belief in youth leadership continue to inspire Children First
Canada’s work. We are proud to honour her as a Champion for Children.
