Clayton Yang

Toronto, Ontario

Clayton Yang is an advocate dedicated to amplifying immigrant youth voices and challenging the stereotypes that surround them. As the founder of Narratives of New Canadian Youth, a photojournalism project that interviews young immigrants, he has shared stories of young immigrants focusing on education, identity, and belonging. Leading a team of ten across Canada, the project has reached tens of thousands of readers worldwide. Through this work, he has collaborated with national charities to help secure youth mental health funding and create resources for newcomer support. Coming from a newcomer family himself, Clayton is committed to combating rising xenophobic sentiment by building empathy through storytelling. Additionally, he has spoken in Parliament through the Forum for Young Canadians program on youth immigration and presented how music can deepen cultural awareness in classrooms at the Ontario Music Educators’ Association. Clayton is currently conducting research on the integration trajectories of second-generation immigrants. He seeks to continue conducting advocacy that connects policy, community, and the arts—ensuring that immigrant youth not only feel seen but also empowered to shape the communities they call home.
