Kamran Shukoor, a 17 year-old student from Calgary, is a persuasive advocate for youth in decision-making. After graduating high school with three diplomas, Kamran is now completing his Doctorate of Medicine in the Caribbean, with the intention of concurrently pursuing both medicine and politics. In April of 2025, Kamran was appointed honorary Mayor of Calgary, for a day, where he advocated for youth engagement in politics, traffic efficiency and government transparency. Kamran’s decisive, rigorous, and effective leadership style can be seen in his work as President of STS Student Council, where he was elected with over 96% of the vote, his work as President of the MediUnite Journal, and as Editor-in-Chief of the STS STAR Newspaper. Kamran’s professional experience includes roles with the Canadian Blood Services, MP George Chahal’s Youth Council, Young Politicians of Canada, Young Canadians Parliament, Alberta Council for Environmental Education, and others. Notably winning the Alberta Premier’s Citizenship Award, Kamran’s efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. Armed with a letter of reference from Premier Danielle Smith, he hopes to continue creating opportunities for youth to participate in civic engagement, in both his province of Alberta, and all across the nation.
