Job descriptions

Special Events Program Planner

The Special Events Program Planners will work closely with the Bilingual Coordinator to plan and execute Children First Canada’s major programs and events related to the wellbeing of children and youth and the promotion of their rights.

The primary responsibilities of the role include:

  1. Supporting the Youth Engagement Strategy – including the development of a plan to strategically engage children and youth in Canada through programs such as the Youth Advisory Council and the Young Canadians’ Parliament. They will provide leadership on planning and executing the events related to these programs on digital platforms.
  2. Assisting in the development and launch of the Raising Canada report and event. This is an annual research project that highlights the top 10 threats to children in Canada. This role will work with a team of highly skilled professionals to execute a minimum of two events related to the report. One event will be targeted to children and youth, while the second will be targeted to adults.
  3. Assisting in the design and launch of the National Child Day campaign and events – a program designed to educate and empower young Canadians with knowledge of their rights and leadership skills to promote peer-to-peer learning. This program is executed with events across the country and in partnership with frontline children’s charities and children’s hospitals.
  4. Supporting the launch of CFC’s new youth leadership program, Being, Belonging, Becoming, with the development of a new innovative online curriculum, along with a coaching and mentoring plan to enable youth to develop and implement social impact projects in their communities across Canada.

Bilingual Services Coordinator

The Bilingual Services Coordinator will have direct, hands-on access to the organization and work on multiple projects related to the wellbeing of children and youth and the promotion of their rights. As a National agency, we must provide services in French and English. Currently, our programs run primarily in English and are available to all children in Calgary who have access to technology and internet. During the last census, 2016, there were over 22,670 Official Language Minorities (OLM) in Calgary who would be served by a Bilingual Services Co-ordinator to support our programs. Across Canada, 22.8% are French speaking OLM and 17.9%are bilingual OLM. A Bilingual Services Co-ordinator would substantially improve our capacity to engage OLM children and youth in Canada.

The role will have the following key areas of focus:

  • Supporting the Youth Engagement Strategy – including the development of a plan to strategically engage children and youth in Canada, in both our Youth Advisory Council and our Young Canadians’ Parliament program. This person will be involved in building bilingual content that teaches children their rights, teaches them about how a bill is passed in Canada, all with an overlay of reconciliation, anti-racism and anti-oppressive practice. This program is designed to include young people who are racialized, identify as 2SLGBTQI+, and be accessible to those with disabilities.
  • Assisting the development of bilingual content and launch of the Raising Canada research report and events – an applied research program on the wellbeing of Canada’s children and youth. 3) Assisting in the design and bilingual launch of the National Child Day campaign and events – a program designed to educate and empower young Canadians with knowledge of their rights and leadership skills to promote peer-to-peer learning. This program is executed with events across the country and in partnership with frontline children’s charities and children’s hospitals.

  • Supporting bilingual communications on CFC’s website, social media and newsletters, along with program materials as needed.

Social Media Coordinator

The Social Media Coordinator will work closely with the Bilingual Coordinator and Event Coordinators to plan and execute Children First Canada’s social media plan to support key programs and events, including: National Child Day, the Young Canadians’ Parliament, Raising Canada, and the launch of our new program Being, Belonging, Becoming.

The Social Media Coordinator’s Responsibilities include:

  • Managing the organization’s social media accounts and posting content.
  • Brainstorming campaign ideas.
  • Monitoring various social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
  • Analyzing analytics to gauge the success of campaigns.
  • Understanding the overall concept of the organization, including the brand, audience, goals, and all other aspects of service.
  • Engaging with the organization’s audience.
  • Providing suggestions to management for improving audience experience on social platforms and internal processes.
  • Learning and becoming proficient on internal software systems.
  • Assisting in creating performance reports.

Communications Specialist

The Communications Specialist will work closely with the CEO and Director of Programs to develop and execute a communications strategy to support the organization’s goals for program and youth outreach. This role will directly liaise with the Bilingual Services Coordinator and Events and Programs Planners to ensure that program priorities are strategically communicated.

The primary responsibilities of the Communications Specialist include:

  • Work closely with the CEO in developing and implementing CFC’s communications plan.
  • Write exceptional and informed media releases and editorials, newsletters, emails, briefing notes, and web and social media content.
  • Develop and deliver creative and effective communications plans.
  • Develop integrated strategies and content for communications, government relations, campaigns, funder reports and project delivery.
  • Facilitate media and speaking opportunities, manage social media accounts and more.
  • Identify and respond quickly and effectively to breaking children and youth stories and weekly news cycle opportunities.
  • Define and deliver on audience engagement goals.
  • Ensure content is shared optimally through all channels.
  • Develop compelling presentations for internal and external audiences.
  • Skilled copy editor, as needed.
  • Oversee the monitoring of publications and broadcasts to ensure accuracy and take prompt corrective action when errors are detected.
  • Act as a spokesperson for CFC as required.

Fundraising Campaign Manager

Children First Canada is seeking an experienced Fundraising Campaign Manager to join our team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of 8 million children and youth across the country while collaborating with our dynamic organization to support our mission to make Canada the best place in the world for kids to grow up.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter and team player who takes pride in exceptional quality of work, achieving goals, and having a reputation as a strong performer. They also bring previous experience successfully supporting other fundraising endeavors.

Key Job Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing a fundraising strategy to establish and build relationships with philanthropists and corporations to encourage substantial donations.
  • Engaging with current donors to steward their support and encourage sustained engagement.
  • Maintaining effective communication with potential donors and providing them with the necessary information to facilitate their contributions.
  • Coordinating a gratitude campaign for all donors brought in.
  • Collaborating with other staff and volunteers to share contacts and valuable information.
  • Collaborating with the CEO and Director to support key organizational priorities
  • Reporting to the CEO and consulting with them before making decisions regarding new ideas, strategies, and potential associated costs.
  • Developing marketing strategies and campaigns
  • Conducting market research and analysis
  • Writing and editing marketing collateral such as brochures, flyers, and presentations
  • Measuring and analyzing marketing campaign effectiveness
  • Utilizing SEO and SEM tactics to optimize website and content
  • Utilizing marketing automation tools to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • The successful candidates will be required to have a Vulnerable Sector and Enhanced Criminal Record Check completed before job commencement. Checks completed within 1 year of start date will be accepted.

Schedule

The successful candidates will be expected to work a total of 37.5 hours per week.

The work schedule is flexible and the candidates can perform some duties from home establishing and maintaining a schedule that works best for them.

The successful candidates will be expected to be available to implement youth programming during the hours that youth are primarily available, including after school and weekends, as well as during the day. They are also expected to form partnerships and host meetings with local businesses and organizations which will mean being available during regular business hours for meetings.
